On behalf of the President’s Council Worlds Ahead Faculty Award Committee, we would like to inform FIU faculty that the 2020 Worlds Ahead Faculty Award (WAFA) has been postponed until 2021.
Many of us are facing personal and professional challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to adjusting to significant changes in university operations - from educating students remotely to conducting research despite physical distancing restrictions. We recognize your efforts to remain committed to our students and managing this transition so successfully.
By postponing this award, we hope to give faculty time they need to prepare for the start of the fall semester, to give them time to adjust to the modalities and not feel pressure to have to submit a nomination packet just as classes are about to begin. By postponing, we hope to give all our outstanding faculty a year to be able to submit a nomination for the World’s Ahead Faculty Award.
The application will re-open in Spring 2021 and two award recipients will be selected and honored during the Fall 2021 Faculty Convocation Award Ceremony and Dinner.
We strongly encourage faculty interested in submitting a nomination to prepare answers to the application questions and digital copies of the required documents in advance. Please review the questions and required documents in support of your nomination.
The President’s Council Worlds Ahead Faculty Award Committee looks forward to reviewing your submission in the future. Please be safe.
